Theater Week Rehearsals

DRESS REHEARSAL Thursday, Oct 23rd

The Orpheum Theater (MANDATORY)

Arrival Window at Theater: 4:30-5:00pm

Rehearsal and Dress Rehearsal*: 5:00-10:00pm (may be released early)

** Extras will first have a stage rehearsal (no costumes/make-up) then there will be a break for all dancers to prepare for a full dress rehearsal (full costumes, hair, and make-up). There will be a photographer shooting dress rehearsal.

Dress Rehearsal Reminders/ Important Details

The Orpheum Theater: 129 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans, LA 70112

Parking & Arrival: Please allow AMPLE time for parking. There is some metered street parking available, plus a few pay parking lots within a few blocks. Carpooling or using Uber can be useful to cut down on parking fees. For performances, you will enter through the STAGE DOOR to the LEFT of the main theater doors (when facing the theater). For Dress Rehearsal a main theater door may be propped open instead. SIGN-IN when you arrive so we know you are here.

All children under 18 must have a guardian or assigned adult stay with them throughout the rehearsal. NOBT staff are not watching the children during the times they are not being used. We cannot have children running wild through the theater, as it is unsafe, disruptive, and they may miss their rehearsal by being unaware of what is going on. Rehearsal release times may be staggered. Children should eat BEFORE coming to the theater. NO EATING IN COSTUME, and no foods/drinks (water only please!) that would stain costumes.

Show Run Time: Approximately 2 hours 10 minutes (including intermission)

PERFORMANCE INFO AND REMINDERS

Performances: The audience area will be completely off limits. Parents of younger children may help drop their child off,  but then all parents will need to vacate the backstage area unless they are a backstage helper.

  • All extras should arrive at the indicated time in full hair and make-up. That being said, all dancers should have extra bobby pins, hairnets, hairspray, extra make-up, make-up remover, etc. in case.

  • Extra dancers should arrive already wearing their leotard (girls) and tights (if required for their role) under street clothes. No children should undress in the backstage areas.

  • No rings, necklaces, bracelets, nail polish of any sort unless it's part of your costume.

  • Dancers should wear street clothes over their attire to greet any guests after the performances. No children meeting guests in just their nude leotard, etc.

ARRIVAL AND PICK-UP:

  • ARRIVAL: All dancers will sign-in upon arrival by the stage door (to the left of the main orpheum doors), walk down the corridor to the backstage entrance at the time indicated. Do not walk through the lobby/audience areas.

  • PICK-UP: All Dancers will remain backstage until the end of the performance. Youth dancers will be picked up after the performance ends by the stage door. (Approximate Run Time: 2 hours 10 minutes with intermission).

THEATER ETIQUETTE REMINDERS:

There is ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOGRAPHY DURING THE LIVE PERFORMANCES. Remember, this is a professional production, not a recital. All cast members and their families are responsible for upholding the reputation of NOBT, and we appreciate your support in setting the example for our audiences. NOBT will not repost on social media any unauthorized footage taken during live performances, and the Orpheum Theater ushers are instructed to quickly stop any recording.  Feel free to capture personal footage during dress rehearsal (however flash photography is never acceptable for dancer safety). We thank you in advance for maintaining this professional environment.

Backstage Helpers (1-2 people): Arrival 45 minutes before showtime

The role of the backstage helper would be simply to keep our younger dancers quiet backstage and help as needed with getting kids into costume, helping them put them back on hangers, etc. It'll be fairly simple, but just to have a couple adults on hand to make sure the dancers are behaving in an orderly and responsible manner. Backstage helpers are not required to help with any entrances or exits from the stage- our staff will assist with that. All children should be arriving with a base leotard on so no children should have to undress in the backstage areas as it is still a public space. Backstage helpers will also help younger dancers find their pick-up person after the show.

Boutique Helpers (2 people): Arrival 1 hour before showtime (when the lobby opens)

There will be a smaller boutique (compared to Nutcracker) in the lobby selling items before the performances, during intermission, and for a short time afterwards.
